The PersonaWeb project is focused upon the implementation and evaluation of a dynamic Web-based framework for achieving dynamic adaptation and personalization of eServices' generic content based on human factors. More specifically, given the users' diversified perceptual preferences, the same service content provided by an organization will be reconstructed and delivered differently based on users' cognitive typologies and the proposed set of design guidelines (user-centric). This way, we will increase information assimilation, accuracy on cognitive targets' searching activities and consequently enhance satisfaction and acceptability of the On-line services.
The aim of this project is multi-fold: (i) to evaluate the significance of human factors in the generic web structures and more specifically in the area of eServices' field, (ii) to propose a Web browser enhancement that will extend the well known html model with a new set of RDFa tags based on cognitive semantics, (iii) to propose a new methodology for the dynamic extraction of users' cognitive perceptual preferences based on their navigation behaviour, and (iv) to propose a set of design guidelines for the automatic reconstruction of Web content based on users' individual characteristics.
In this context, PersonaWeb will be an easy to use framework enabling any entity, Web designer and/or developer to enhance their Web services (technology and language independent) with adaptive Web objects that will adapt according to users' dynamically extracted cognitive factors. In the Analysis phase an overview of Web Personalization techniques and methods will be conducted. A high-level analysis of major Web services/sites with regards to the degree of customization and personalization based on the given cognitive framework will also be a major part of our initial research, as well as identify state of the art technologies and models in cognitive systems. After specifying the general requirements and specifications of our system, a Cognitive User Model as well as the system's architecture and its components will be designed in an abstract level (i.e., extending HTML with cognitive type of tags, dynamic cognitive model extraction based on users' navigation patterns, intelligent techniques for mapping users' cognitive model with semantic content, intelligent user interface, etc.). In the implementation phase we will develop an open and interoperable Web-based system that aims to improve users' usability and satisfaction and successfully suggest intelligent personalization guidelines / mechanisms on how the proposed techniques, processes and intelligent interfaces can be integrated with today's mass market eServices and products supporting organizations in Cyprus to gain the competitive advantage to the benefit always of the society and economy. Finally, in the experimentation phase, we will evaluate the system's and cognitive model’s impact into the computer-mediated information space in the application areas of eServices. The methodological approach followed will be based on the quantitative analysis and statistical processing of the results derived from research, users’ navigation behaviour analysis developed for the Internet and via the Internet. More specifically, experiments are planned in a controlled eServices environment. Expected results: (a) Impact of the Cognitive model’s factors in the computer-mediated information space in relation to users’ performance and satisfaction, and (b) correlation amongst the dimensions of the various factors of the model.
